In August 2005 Recharge became a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. Recharge was set up to help educate and support young people in the Fa-Side area. In 2006 Recharge started to believer youth work in the area and seen the establishment of the drop-in nights for young people which are still running today. Since then Recharge has developed as an organization and now offers a variety of services including one to one work, specialized group work and school holiday programs.
Recharge is an organization which sees the involvement of the community as essential and has always made sure that the local community have a close relationship with the organization. The young people are essential to the success of the organization which seen the establishment of a youth committee known as Recharge Youth Managers which has a direct input into how Recharge operates and also allows the young people to have a voice in their community. This has also lead to the establishment of the Recharge Youthbank as part of the Youthbank UK network.
Recharge has had a variety of funders since 2006 which include BBC Children in Need, The Robertson Trust, The Big Lottery Fund, Awards for All, Lloyds TSB foundation, East Lothian Council, NHS Lothian and the Scottish Government.
